Oregon Trail

We spent one day at the National Oregon/
California Trail Center. It was a great museum.
Went went back in time to the 1860's all the
people were in period costume. They gave the tour as if we were actually preparing & on the Oregon trail. We saw a gun shop and learned how guns were made. We learned how much guns & bullets cost and which guns were better for hunting which animal. We took a look inside a wagon and learned all about how it works and what life was like for those traveling the trail. We visited a store and learned about what things would be best to buy for our trip. We then got on a "real" wagon simulator for a ride. This was great! The wagon creaked back and forth and we could hear animals and people outside the wagon. On the top canvas top you could watch the sun rise and set during the ride. We could also see the shadows of trees over the top of the wagon. While we rode we listened to journal entries from people who had actually been on the Oregon Trail. It was a neat ride. At the end we got out and we were at a camp. We went over to diffrent people's camps and heard lots of stories from the trail. The kids have been playing the Oregon Trail game latley so this place was really neat for them to see.
